Case Studies

Sihle Property Developers and Plant Hire (Pty) Ltd is a Level 1 B-BBEE that is 100 per cent black-owned. The business currently employs 40 permanent employees. It holds a CIDB grading of 07 CE PE (civil engineering), 07 GB PE (general building work) and 04 EB PE (electrical engineering works – building).

SIHLE’s services include building and civil construction, civil engineering, property development (turnkey projects), electrical contracting, as well as plant and machine hire solutions. It has participated in the Stefanutti Stocks Enterprise Development Programme since 2018, with a key focus of the relationship being technical skills transfer, marketing and branding, as well as access to business systems and training that can improve SIHLE’s efficiencies.

The development areas for SIHLE during the reporting period include:

  • Attendance of two delegates at the Safety File Training Course (September 2023)
  • SAGE Payroll Training Module 3 (September 2023)
  • Attendance of one delegate at the Construction Estimating Training Course (October 2023)
  • SAGE Payroll Training Module 4 (January 2024)
  • Payment of CCS Licence
  • Professional site (drone and ground) photo shoot for marketing purposes
  • Promotional Branded Items (banners and vehicle branding)

Of the many challenges currently facing emerging contractors in South Africa, access to industry business systems and a foundation of in-house expertise are areas of critical importance to the sustainability of these companies. Stefanutti Stocks has for an extended period of time paid for SIHLE’s annual subscription to CCS (a valuable and industry-leading software programme that specifically caters for contracting requirements). This has afforded SIHLE the opportunity to gain full understanding of the programme before taking over the monthly licencing costs. The group has also invested in training that will support and enhance SIHLE’s efficiencies as well as the contractor’s ability to operate more professionally and over time more independently.

“CCS is a very valuable programme, used extensively by SIHLE’s technical staff during tendering and execution. Also, the training provided to employees is being put to good use in our fully-fledged office – a  lot has been gained, in particular over the last three years,” says Raymond Mhlabane, SIHLE’s chief executive officer. “Above and beyond this, having shared experiences, such as SIHLE’s site engineers being shown how programmes and projects are managed on a Stefanutti Stocks contract, empowers SIHLE even further.”
