K1750 – Sishen UHDMS Plant Expansion
The Stefanutti Stocks Mechanical Discipline undertook the multidisciplinary K1750 – Sishen UHDMS Plant Expansion in Sishen for Kumba Iron Ore between June 2017 and October 2018.
Background: The multidisciplinary project consisted of civil works, structural steel, mechanical equipment, piping, platework, electrical and instrumentation for the Sishen modular plant expansion and project handling facility at the Sishen Mine
The Project Scope
The project scope included the construction of a modular ultra-high dense medium separation (UHDMS) plant. Construction was done during various phases and shutdown periods, and within a brownfields operational plant.
The expansion saw the addition of the following sections:
- Ore receiving,
- Limp UHDMS modules,
- Degrit modules,
- A thickener and flocculent plant,
- Process and raw water circuits, and
- Feed, product, and tailings conveying to meet the increased capacity and reduce intermediate stockpiling of products and discard.
- 520ton steelwork
- 35ton platework
- 2 000m handrailing
- 1200m2 gratings
- 85ton mechanicals
- 4 500m in plant piping
