Watercrest Shopping Centre

Description: In February 2013 Stefanutti Stocks Building KZN secured the tender for the 180 378m2 shopping centre consisting of two trading levels which covered 50 000m2  of rentable area; 2 600 parking bays on four parking levels; delivery yards for anchor tenants; external roadways and external works.

Some of the statistics achieved during the project, completed in April 2015 include:

  • 48 000m3 of concrete cast.
  • 6.5 million bricks laid.
  • 4 500 tons of reinforcing put into the concrete structure.
  • 31 kilometres of ECC cable, 700 kilometres of house wire and 84 kilometres of surfix pulled into place (this excludes data and other mechanical and electronic services cables).
  • 34.5 kilometres of sprinkler pipes installed in the ceiling voids.
  • 72 000m2 of plaster.
  • 768 tonnes of structural steel in the roof and other structures.
  • 24 lifts and hoists, as well as 10 escalators installed.

The project achieved a first place in the 2013 and 2014 Master Builders South Africa (MBSA) regional health and safety (H&S) competition for contracts over R500-million; was placed second in the MBSA national H&S competition in both years; achieved MBSA-accredited five-star ratings in both 2013 and 2014.
