Sir Seretse Khama International Airport

Client: Botswana Department of Building & Engineering Services (DBES)

Description: In July 2014 the Botswana Department of Building & Engineering Services (DBES) tasked Stefanutti Stocks Botswana with the completion of the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA) in Gaborone after the original tender, awarded to a Chinese contractor, was suspended in 2012.

SSKIA was originally opened in 1984 and is Botswana’s biggest airport handling the largest amount of regional and international traffic in the country. The original expansion work began in 2008 and was about 90 per cent complete when government suspended the contract. The scope of work that was then awarded to Stefanutti Stocks included repairs, re-installations, replacements, maintenance and completion of unfinished elements of the airport.
The SSKIA project is the latest of numerous contracts successfully undertaken for the DBES over the past two decades which include the Hukuntsi Hospital; Department of Supplies; the Rural Administrative Centre in Letlakeng; Otse Police College in Gaborone; Botswana Bureau of Standards; the Ministry of Health and the Maun Hospital.
